Tonight's dinner: a rather retro recipe for pasta, salmon, and mushrooms. I think this is the kind of thing we ate in the 1980s.
I assembled all the ingredients, and according to the recipe, cooked the dill-seasoned salmon first, then the garlic.
Then I
added chopped green onions, capers, sliced mushrooms, and white wine to the pan. When they were done, I tossed in the cooked pasta. |
|
My friend Alice made salad to go with it. |
|
For an appetizer I served something even more retro:
sherry and celery stuffed with cheese.
Also, Trader Joe's delicious and sinful pastry hors d'oeuvres. |
|
Pasta, ready to serve, garnished with halved cherry tomatoes in oil & dill,
chopped parsley, and lemon wedges. |
|
Pasta on the table. My other guest made a fudge pie for dessert. |
I found the recipe at Epicurious --
HERE, originally from Bon Appetit magazine.
That pasta looks gorgeous! We love salmon and are always looking for new ways to make it. This is going on the list. And a little retro is always fun.
ReplyDeleteOh my! Even if you'd served frozen pizza, I'd come to that table!

Those TJ pastries are incredible. And your table and the salmon dish is gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteWhen you said retro in the header, I was thinking 50s, 60s. I'm trying very hard to wrap my brain around the fact that yet another decade of my life has become retro! But we ate well -- and so did you with this!
Those appetizers have me wanting to drive to the nearest Trader Joes! I love all the components so I imagine they're fabulous. The dish may be retro but it looks really good - a nice mixture of simple and tasty and it makes for a gorgeous plate!
ReplyDeleteSounds like a great menu.
ReplyDeletePasta and salmon look delicious! Thanks for the recipe link! :)

Sounds like a lovely dinner, salad, and dessert! My husband insists he doesn't like salmon, but I've been wanting to try it again and, coincidentally, just bought some today!
ReplyDeleteI'm too young to appreciate retro (was born in the 80s) but I think I prefer it anyway! Sometimes these newer dishes are just too bizarre for my taste. ;) The pasta looks delicious and the fudge pie sounds awesome! Think I'll add some salmon to our menu for this week.
