Svalbard Highlights

Midnight sun
Brunnich's guillemots in a nesting colony
A glaucous gull eating one of the guillemots from the colony
Barbecue on the deck of the National Geographic Explorer
Polar bear eating a bird that it stole from some gulls. The bear, walking on the ice, came right up to the ship.
Walruses at 4 AM --
an announcement woke us up to come up on deck to see them.
Arctic Tern
Arctic fox
And delicious desserts every night on the ship.
This morning we left the National Geographic Explorer and flew back from the extreme north to Oslo, where we once again have internet access. We have our boarding passes and luggage tags for tomorrow's flight from Oslo to Detroit via Amsterdam. I'll post more details about our voyage when I get home.

  3. Incredible. That photo of the bear eating the gull's dinner is a knock out.
