What we ate this weekend

Carol made a stunningly gorgeous boeuf en croute for dinner on Friday night; a mushroom sauce and another sauce were also on the menu. She also made a delicious soup, an inventive kale salad, and a nutmeg-flavored cake. A splendid meal! She's simultaneously creative and patient: a winning combination. I don't have anywhere near the patience needed for such things.

  2. I need to get my winter cooking groove together. After a week away, I just want to be in the kitchen. Unfortunately, when I looked for dinner last night I felt like one of those contestants on "Chopped" where they give you a bunch of ingredients with no relationship and you have to get creative. I ended up with the Ikea meatballs and roasted carrots, while Rick pulled some potatoes from his place. Maybe next weekend...
