End of Summer

Summer is winding up. At the farmers market today, notices announced "last peaches," "last blueberries," and other "lasts." Apples are ripe, corn is abundant, the reddest tomatoes are still available in many sizes. I returned the two peck boxes from last week's peaches and tomatoes and an egg carton, so they can be used once again.

I saw my first pumpkins, and the largest broccoli heads ever. I suspect the plums that I brought home will also be the last I see.

  1. I'm definitely having that "last" feeling, too. I just told my mother today that the peaches and plums I brought her would probably be it for the season. I really adore fall squashes, potatoes, apples, pears, etc., though.
